Now much better...but not perfect
Theyve fixed the biggest problem that this had when I last tried the app, so Im giving it another shot. Everything seems very nice, but there are still a few small annoyances.
One of them is that the menu of icons sometimes obscures other important UI elements. The only control they give you is choosing whether the menu appears above or below the text youve highlighted. Even though Ive chosen "above", it sometimes appears below, probably to avoid covering up any text Ive highlighted, in cases where that is large and maybe my cursor is closer to the bottom. This wouldnt be such a big deal if not for the next problem.
The biggest problem is that the menu remains around much beyond being useful. Sometimes when I highlight text I dont want anything that PopClip has to offer. If I can do something with keystrokes (like cut or copy) thats always faster and easier, so keeping the menu around after Ive used the keyboard is pretty much always an annoyance. If PopClip behaved as though it were only one of many things I might want to use for my selected text, it would be better, but right now it seems to be built around the premise that youll use it for everything every time you select text.
Its clever, and looks nice, but given the problems it has, its much easier to just copy and open the appropriate app and paste.
